Switch on the Holidays in Red River, NM
When winter settles over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Red River transforms into a magical wonderland. One of the most beloved traditions is Switch on the Holidays, an annual celebration that brings locals and visitors together to kick off the Christmas season in true mountain-town style.
The Heart of the Celebration
At the center of the festivities is Brandenburg Park, where towering trees are illuminated in dazzling lights. As the switch is flipped, the park glows with holiday cheer, creating a breathtaking backdrop for the evening.
Carols & Community
The air fills with the sound of Christmas carols, sung by joyful voices that echo through the crisp mountain night. Families gather, neighbors reconnect, and visitors are welcomed into the warmth of Red River’s community spirit.
Sweet Treats & Cozy Moments
No holiday gathering is complete without comfort food. Guests warm up with hot cocoa and cookies, a simple but heartwarming tradition that makes the evening feel like home.
A Visit from Santa
Of course, the highlight for children (and many adults!) is a visit from Santa Claus himself. The Jolly Ol’ Elf greets families, spreading laughter and joy while listening to holiday wishes.
Why It Matters
Switch on the Holidays isn’t just about lights—it’s about community, tradition, and joy. It marks the beginning of Red River’s festive season, inviting everyone to embrace the magic of winter in the mountains.
Whether you’re sipping cocoa, singing along to carols, or watching the trees sparkle against the snowy backdrop, Switch on the Holidays is a reminder that the best part of the season is celebrating together.
