Red River Ski Area Season Pass Prices Rise October 14; Opening Day Set for November 26

Skiers pause on a snowy ridge at Red River Ski Area with Wheeler Peak and the Sangre de Cristo range behind them.

The countdown to ski season is on, and skiers planning a winter in Red River have a deadline worth circling. The Red River Ski & Summer Area's early-season pricing tier ends October 13 — after that, season pass prices step up for the 2026-27 season.

Through October 13, a Platinum adult pass (ages 35-69) runs $589; it moves to $679 from October 14 through December 10. Pioneer passes for ages 13-34 go from $459 to $529, and junior passes for ages 6-12 move from $399 to $459. Kids five and under and seniors 70 and over ski free — one of the resort's most generous traditions, with the simple caveat that the first child or senior pass must be picked up in person at Guest Services with proof of age.

The Weekender pass, built for Friday-through-Sunday skiers, is also at its lowest price through October 13: $419 for adults, $339 for ages 13-34, and $289 for juniors, stepping up to $479, $389, and $379 respectively afterward. Weekender passes carry blackout dates during the holiday weeks (December 26 through January 2, February 13-14, and March 10-19), but they include a pair of $69 friend-and-family day tickets with no blackouts.

The season itself is set: the mountain plans to open November 26, 2026 and run through March 21, 2027 — 115 days on 209 acres, with 64 runs dropping 1,600 feet of vertical from a base at 8,750 feet to a summit of 10,350 feet. The trail mix runs about 31 percent beginner, 31 percent intermediate, and 38 percent advanced, and the lifts rise right off Main Street — chairlifts departing from a historic mining town rather than a purpose-built resort village, which is part of Red River's enduring charm.

Red River bills its snowmaking system as the most powerful in the state, covering 85 percent of the mountain with 102 snow guns — a useful reassurance for anyone thinking about an early-season trip. Platinum passholders also get reciprocation benefits at Freedom Pass resorts and partner mountains, plus the ability to load a Red Pass card with money for on-mountain purchases.

If Red River is your mountain this winter, the message is simple: buy before October 14 and pocket the savings. With opening day landing on Thanksgiving this year, an early pass also sets you up for the holiday kickoff — Switch on the Holidays lights up Brandenburg Park that same evening, making November 26 one of the biggest days of the year in town.
